Meet Matthew!
A Palm Springs, CA native, Matthew braved the desert heat for 18 years before making the move to NYC in 2023 to pursue Musical Theatre at Manhattan School of Music. Here, he’s had the privilege to foster his passion for directing and writing, while earning his performance degree. Moving 3,000 miles taught him that every chance you’re granted is worth taking, and he intends to live life to the fullest!
What is his mission?
Art exposes truths, specifically those that some audiences might find difficult or hard to digest. My focus is on instilling a sense of self-reflection in the audience through our artists’ innate ability to harness the human condition and its many colors. I wear my experiences on my sleeve with pride, as I believe the only way to affect or cause change is through shared experiences. Relatability is the key to success when conveying themes or lessons, whether that be as the protagonist, villain, or the smallest role in the show. Particularly in this industry, I do not take lightly the chance to explore every view and every ounce of potential that could be brought to the stage. I only want a career where I know that I did everything I could to stretch the possibilities of theatre and film, and to give a voice to those who do not typically get the opportunity. We belong to a beautiful community of creators, and I pride myself on my ability and desire to view the world through every facet that I can. We are here to learn, and that is what I want to do.
